I really like cilantro, especially in pico de gallo.
Stinkbugs (halyomorpha halys) make a smell when they are upset that smells like cilantro.
Several made it into the house last fall and are still hanging around, so now when I clean some obscure corner I get skunked by a disgruntled insect. It has happened so often that if I eat cilantro leaves or even bite into a coriander seed (same plant) some part of my brain thinks I've eaten a bug.
Grr.

I swear, they have to be one of the smartest bugs out there. They find the most obscure hiding places. I took down curtains to wash and there had to be a dozen of those suckers hiding in the folds. I thought I was being smart by vacuuming them up; alas, they got the last laugh - now I am blasted with stinkbug stench every time I turn my vacuum on - the little bastards.

Not sure about how smart they are. I just watched one fly into a ceiling light, touch the bulb, freak out and make a stink cloud, then repeat the process about three times before going off to do something else.

I can't do cilantro. Even in the faintest amounts, the entire dish smells and tastes like soap.
A few months ago, I got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. I didn't bother switching the light on as I was half asleep. All of a sudden I felt something land on my bare arm. It jostled me awake as I swatted it and reached for the light. Within that few seconds the entire bathroom was filled with the smell of cilantro.
I know this sounds silly, but I'd never been the victim of a stink bug. I'd imagined that they let out a sulfuric smell. Now I know. Lol

Well, if it smells like soap, then, does smushing a stink bug make your bathroom smell all clean?

I love the taste and smell of cilantro but can't stand stinkbug stink. They don't smell alike to me at all! Meanwhile my wife can't smell stinkbug for some reason and refuses to believe they smell. She thinks "that's just what they call them." Weird.

I should have noted it's not a soapy scent that I enjoy. Cilantro soap is not for me.

They don’t smell like soap or cilantro to me. They stink so bad it takes me hours to get the smell out of my hand if I catch them. Soap doesn’t work. It takes vinegar and rubbing alcohol. The dogs run away from them. They invaded my house 3 years ago. They lay eggs in hidden spots I don’t find until they start hatching. They love laundry hampers and the coat closet for sneaky survival. Every time I open the door they sneak in. I bought an old vacuum with bags just for the stink bugs so I can suck them up and throw the entire bag out. At certain times of the year I have bug zappers inside and out of the house. I have it mostly under control now and can go months without seeing them. Then all of a sudden there they are for a week or two and the battle begins again. I’m not talking about the little ones that look like lady bugs. These are big and brownish. Until they arrived I’d never heard of them.
