Shit my mother did this and we went to public school. She called it "Go outside. I will call you when dinner is ready."

I have never heard this term which surprises me because I thought I'd heard it all when it came to alternative schooling. Once again Nicole is educating me. 😂

Exactly Sally! My boys used to dig up worms & all kinds of insects & interesting things in the dirt. They stacked rocks, hammered nails in extra barn wood & built forts out behind our house. They also went to school, played sports, participated in academic contests. It’s all a balance. There is no balance in her unschooling, wild schooling, whatever her buzz word is at the moment. Having & KEEPING a job is something I worry those kids will not be able to do because they have not had to sit when they don’t want to sit, be quiet when they don’t want to be quiet, or generally follow a few rules of polite society. They do want they want, when they want, how they want. What a terrible legacy for these kids.

My friend "unschools" her kids and recently started using "wildschooling" often and even "feral". I want to meet 1 person who isn't crazy who is doing unschooling/wildschooling. 1 person. Please. Or just plum lazy. I'm sorry, but my friend is lazy and that is why they don't attend school.

Educating a child, regardless of the method used, is hard work. Neglecting them is easy.
