When it rains a lot in an area and saturates the ground, the drain field can't take any more liquid so the septic tank can't drain, which can cause greywater and sewage to back up into the pipes inside the house.
I wonder what happens when it rains a lot and a household uses a composting toilet? Is it like what happens when there's an open sewage trench because that would be messy. What if there isn't even a trench? Hmm.
